Uji Sencha Otsuusan

A very nice and affordable karigane sencha. I tend to brew it with more leaves than indicated on the package.
I tasted previously the teabag version of this tea (one of the best teabag I have tasted so far) but the leaf version is quite better.

I have been drinking this karigane sencha for almost 10 years since I first dried it when visiting Tsuen in Uji. Makes a wonderful daily tea -- I can drink it every day for weeks and not get tired of the taste. I particularly enjoy the astringency and somewhat tart taste -- it is nice to wake up to in the morning. A great value for the price.

This is a very complex tea.

The box comes with slightly different brewing instructions from the site. It recommends a slightly higher temperature (175F, I believe), and less material (.6g/oz).
I recommend the approach of more material and lower temperature, as the site does.

Each infusion (I recommend up to three, roughly same temperature) has a distinct flavor. The first infusion is definitely the fullest and most interesting, with every sip bringing out a different flavor. The second and third infusions are less complex, with bolder flavors brought to the forefront.

It's also very rewarding to play around a little bit with the temperature. Higher temperatures border on harsh, but lower temperatures bring out the gyokuro flavor to the karigane, being sweeter, fuller, and slightly briny.

I will buy much more of this tea, and continue to experiment with more of the Tsuen Sencha collection, but I would fervently urge all green tea lovers to try out this incredible, and cheap, sencha.

This is a very pleasant tea, worth the price, I was surprised by the quality of it! If you´re looking for a good quality tea for everyday drinking at a lower price, this might be the tea you´re looking for! :)
I will definitely order it again.
