Shizuoka Green Tea The majority of Japanese green tea comes from Shizuoka prefecture. With a warmer than average climate for mainland Japan, it provides the perfect growing conditions for Japanese green tea. Miles upon miles of green tea fields awaits the the connoisseur lucky enough to visit Shizuoka. While there are many grades of green tea from Shizuoka, we go out of our way to only provide those in the higher quality ranges.

Additional Information Regarding Shizuoka Tea and Radiation For Our Customers: We have decided to slowly and carefully re-introduce Shizuoka green tea to our lineup  as radiation was detected in some Shizuoka teas in May of 2011. Until now, we had quit selling teas from that area completely.  Now that we are well into 2012, we have been extremely careful to choose only Shizuoka green teas which show zero traces of radiation, teas which are un-blended, and only those teas which are certified by legitimate certifying agencies.  The teas in this category have been tested using equipment capable of measuring down to 4 Bq/kg for fresh leaf and 1 Bq/kg for infused leaf and in both cases traces of Cesium were undetectable.  To put that into perspective, the international standard for allowable radiation is 1000 Bq/kg, for the EU it is 500 Bq/kg, and for Japan the new standard as of April 2012 is 50 bq/kg for fresh leaf and 10 bg/kg for infused tea.
