    Handcrafted in Saitama Prefecture Japan, this Shiboridashi green tea set was custom made especially for O-Cha.com with gyokuro brewing in mind. As gyokuro (the most expensive green tea per ounce) should be brewed at a lower temperatures and with a relatively larger amount of loose leaf, the use of this special set is ideal for gyokuro enthusiasts as it allows brewing a small amount of gyokuro leave multiple times.

    How to Brew Gyokuro - Step-by-Step Instructions!

    The teapot measures 10.0 cm wide x 6.5 cm tall, and holds about 180ml / 6 ounces of water (without leaf). Included are two small matching teacups and a matching yuzamashi (water cooler) to help lower water temperature. Specially designed grooves in the interior of the ceramic teapot body eliminate the need for a filter basket.

    An extremely nice feature about this teapot set is that all vessels stack within the main teapot for easy storage!

    Important! - While this teapot could be used with most larger leaf green teas (light steamed green tea), is not really suitable for deep steamed (fukamushi) or other green teas with very fine leaf particles.

    The potter of this item, Kazuhiro Arima, spent many years of his life studying ceramics in Kyoto, Kyushu near Nagasaki, and also spend years in Ishikawa. The craftsmanship of this items is superb and many not-so-obvious fine details went into making this teapot. The clay used for this item originates in Kyoto.

    Since each of these items are had crafted, they may very slightly from the shown images - but not by much!  If you are a regular gyokuro drinker or have ever considered a foray into gyokuro, you will be hard pressed to find a better teapot for it than our handmade shiboridashi and houhin teapots!

    Set includes one shibori-dashi teapot and lid, 2 small matching gyokuro tea cups, and one yuzamashi (water cooler) for controling water temperature.

    Shipping Note: Due to the fragile nature and size of this product, we are required to use a larger sized box and thus there is a weight increase.  An additional ¥600 JPY (Approx US $5.50 / EU 4,80) charge for shipping will be added.

    It's our pleasure to be able to offer the outstanding Uji Shincha Kirameki.   While most of our teas have both a shincha and non-shincha version, this is the one tea we release just once a year during shincha season, and when when supplies run out, it will not be available again for another year.  Our supplier, the Tsuen teashop in Uji Japan, will then released a very similar product under the name Ujibashi San no Ma when shincha season has finished, but they are not the exact blend.

    The set is intentionally made very small, holding just 60-80ml of water. The lid fits the inside of the teapot wall perfectly and is tilted to whatever degree the brewer would like the gap to be to pour efficiently, eliminating the need for a filter basket.   • Organic Zairai Sencha - From Kirishima

    Grown organically in the mountainous Kirishima area of Kagoshima Prefecture. Lightly steamed, organic Kirishima Zairai sencha has a light yellow green color to it, medium body, and rather unique taste and aroma due to it's high iron content.  Zairai means "native" in Japanese and refers to the fact that this tea is from no known modern cultivar and is a close derivitive of the original tea plants imported into Japan from China in the 14th century. Since it is "wild" and grown from seed instead of cloning, there is quite a lot of variation between individual plants which gives the leaf a non-uniform leaf structure and charactaristics of a blend. Although it is considered a hardier plant to culitviate, the lack of leaf conformity, in addition to lower yield than recent clones does not encourage growers to grow it means you will not come across this unique tea often.

    Very delicious, here's your chance to experience a green tea with characteristics of the teas of old Japan. As with all of our loose leaf green teas, packaged in nitrogen flushed packaging.

    Grown in Miyazaki Prefecture. Light steamed (asamushi). We knew we had to aquire this when we tasted it as it has a quite strong aroma and very pleasant umami taste. Very nicely balanced this has been priced competitively and is a very good value considering it's high quality. Very delicious, we are confident you will enjoy this product.     This green tea comes from Kirishima City, Kagoshima and is of course harvested from the first round of young leaves.  Organic Sae Midori Kabusecha is grown for 14 to 20 days under 45% shade before harvest giving it taste characteristics of both sencha and gyokuro. This light steamed (asamushi) version comes from the Sae Midori clone and it is somewhat rare to be processed in kabusecha form.  A sweeter, less astringent taste than regular sencha, it has a lovely green color and is quite flavorful. Brew as you would for sencha. As with all of our loose leaf green teas, packaged in nitrogen flushed packaging.

    This green tea comes from Kagoshima and is of course harvested from the first round of young leaves.  When we offered this for the first time in 2017, we knew we would buy this one as soon as we tried it and sure enough it had sold out by December. Organic Sae Midori asamushi is a light steamed green tea of the Sae Midori clone and is somewhat rare to be processed in the light steamed form. This product is both flavorful and aromatic, much more so than the typical deep steamed Sae Midori. If you are a light-steamed green tea fan, you should really enjoy this one.  As with all of our loose leaf green teas, packaged in nitrogen flushed packaging.

  • Okabe Shizuoka Gyokuro

    A very high quality gyokuro grown by famous gold-star award winning grower Tohei Maejima in Okabe, Shizuoka Prefecture Japan. As 3rd generation gyokuro master, Mr. Maejima specializes in and only grows gyokuro so you can bet he knows what he's doing when it comes to producing a very superior tea!

    We find this tea to be very delightful with complex umami notes and after taste.  Thoroughly delicious when brewed correctly, probably best made in a shiboridashi teapot with care. Okabe Shizuoka Gyokuro, like all gyokuro, is shade grown for about three weeks before harvesting, giving it a greener color and sweeter taste.  Once you learn to make it properly, you wil be hooked for life!  Be sure to read our brewing instructions as it is brewed differently than sencha: How to Brew Gyokuro - Step-by-Step Instructions!

    This light steamed sencha green tea is produced by a well-known tea master located in Tenryu, Shizuoka and of course is harvested from the first round of young leaves. This is a rather rare batch and probably won't last very long.  Yumesuruga is a somewhat new clone which was registered 2014 and has only becoming available recently.  This sencha was harvested from three year old young tea bushes, it's leaves are beautifully twisted needle shaped.  It has a crispy nutty overtone, rich, silky mouthfeel.  As with most light steamed green teas, some of the taste is subtle but it has a nice umami and lingering aftertaste.  This tea is a masterpiece light steamed green tea.
