From Uji. Although it may look similar to matcha, this product is sencha and has different taste characteristics - it's a bit more astringent. However, because Uji Organic Powdered Sencha is grown under full sun it is poplular with those seeking maximum antioxidant levels from their tea. From the first harvest, the leaves used to produce this green tea are grown under full sun and are then ground into a fine, talcum-like. 100% certified JAS/JONA organic. From the first harvest, a very special sencha from Nishimoto, Chiran, Minami-Kyushu, in Japan’s Kagoshima Prefecture. This wonderful tea was grown and certified organic. A blend of Yabukita, Yutaka Midori, Asatsuyu and Kanayamidori breeds. Deeply steamed, it has an exceptional green color and is very flavorful and aromatic.

Harvested from the first round of young spring leaves, this 100% Yabukita green tea comes from the Makinohara tea growing district in Shizuoka Prefecture. We recently came across this gem and snapped it up on the spot - this is one very delicous sencha green tea! Sencha "Mio" is medium-steamed has a somewhat more pronounced grassy aroma and taste compared with the average deep steamed green tea and the taste remains on the palate for an extended time.

An overall easy brewer (a teapot for fukuamushi-cha is recommended, however). Be sure to not brew too hot, for too long, or with too much leaf. As with all of our loose leaf green teas, freshly packaged in nitrogen filled bags.

While this green tea would be a very good tea for beginners, even seasoned green tea fans appreciate this sencha. One of the few second harvest green teas we sell, we carry Daily Sencha because it is an above average quality sencha and offers a very good quality-to-price ratio. This green tea is far and away better than what you will find at most grocery or health food stores and is freshly packaged in Japan within a very short time of when you purchase it. This item is a blend of green tea leaf from Japan's Southern Kyushu tea growing region. Be sure not to brew with too much heat or for too long or it can be overly bold.

Grown organically in the mountainous Kirishima area of Kagoshima. This is a rather exclusive product, only the tips of the young tender buds are used. From the first harvest, Kagoshima Sencha Yutaka Midori "Madoka" is a very special sencha from Kagoshima prefecture located at the southern tip of Japan. Madoka is quite similar to our original Yutaka Midori but is a bit less grassy, has a bit less steaming, and a bit more astringency, which means it probably also packs a bit more catechin punch. Brew with a bit more caution by paying particular attention to brew temperature and brew time.  Try some today!

This organic green tea hails from Kirishima Kagoshima and is of course harvested from the first round of young leaves. Medium-steamed (chūmushi) this Organic Sae Midori has a lovely green color.  With a strong aroma, flavorful umami taste, and nice balance of astringency, this organic sencha is nicely balanced and is one of our best aquasitions of the year.  As with all of our loose leaf green teas, packaged in nitrogen flushed packaging.

Packed with umami and one of our personal favorites, this delicious green tea comes from Kagoshima and is of course harvested from the first round of young leaves.  When we first offered this in 2017, we knew we would buy it the moment we tried it. Organic Sae Midori asamushi is a light steamed green tea of the Sae Midori clone and is somewhat rare to be processed in the light steamed form. This product is both flavorful and aromatic, much more so than the typical deep steamed Sae Midori. If you are a light-steamed green tea fan, you should really enjoy this one.  As with all of our loose leaf green teas, packaged in nitrogen flushed packaging.

From the first harvest in Uji. Kabusecha is grown in the shade for 14~20 days before harvest under 45% shade, giving it characteristics of both sencha and gyokuro. A sweeter, less grassy and more vegetal, less astringent taste than regular sencha, you can definitely taste vegetive hints of gyokuro.  It is easy to brew, not overly astringent, medium steamed, has a lovely green color, and is reasonably priced making it an all-around versatile winner of a green tea. Although it has hints of gyokuro, be sure to brew it as you would for sencha, not gyokuro.

Our Green Tea with Matcha Tea Bags (Matcha-Iri-Tea Bags) are a concentrated sencha grown in Kagoshima Prefecture. A combination of loose-leaf green tea and powdered sencha (not tea dust), this tea bag comes in the form of a triangular, nylon mesh bag, and will not affect the taste as traditional paper tea bags are known to do. This is a strong green tea and is especially recommended for iced tea or for use with a larger sushi teacup. For iced tea, we recommend one tea bags per liter/quart. Simply add the tea bags in the water and refrigerate.

As of June 2020, the tea bag material used for our Uji green tea bags is composed of a starch based biomass material derived from plants. In addition to the filter, the laminate on the tag and string of this product also incorporate the same environmentally-friendly material.

Since the baking process removes the caffeine, this tea is often served in Japan to patients in hospitals, and to children. Handcrafted in Tokoname Prefecture, Japan. This type of teapot is becoming harder to find over the years. Since gyokuro should be brewed at a lower temperature with double the amount of loose leaf, notwithstanding the fact that gyokuro is usually the most expensive type of loose-leaf green tea available, the use of this teapot is ideal for gyokuro enthusiasts. Multiple small infusions for individual cups. This teapot also works great for light steamed asamushi sencha as well.

How to Brew Gyokuro - Step-by-Step Instructions!

The actual size of this teapot is purposefully small, measuring 10.5 cm wide x 5.3 cm tall (4" x 2") and holding about 100ml / 3.4 ounces of water. The thin gap between the in the inner body of the teapot and the lid eliminate the need for a filter basket.

Important to note - This teapot is meant to be used with larger leaf green teas such as light steamed sencha green tea or gyokuro, it is not suitable for anything with a fine leaf particle such as deep steamed green tea (fukamushi-cha). 

The craftsmanship of these items is superb, and many not-so-obvious fine details went into making this teapot. Please note that since each of these items are had crafted, they may very slightly from the shown images. So, if you are a regular gyokuro drinker or have ever considered a foray into gyokuro, you will be hard pressed to find a better teapot for it than our handmade shiboridashi and houhin teapots!
