It's O-Cha.com's pleasure to be able to provide you with the Tsuen blend "Otsūsan" karigane sencha, from Japan's oldest tea shop. This is probably the most popular green tea in the Tsuen tea shop in Uji Japan. A proprietary blend Yabukita breed karigane sencha. Our Green Tea with Matcha Tea Bags (Matcha-Iri-Tea Bags) are a concentrated sencha grown in Kagoshima Prefecture. A combination of loose-leaf green tea and powdered sencha (not tea dust), this tea bag comes in the form of a triangular, nylon mesh bag, and will not affect the taste as traditional paper tea bags are known to do. This is a strong green tea and is especially recommended for iced tea or for use with a larger sushi teacup. For iced tea, we recommend one tea bags per liter/quart. From Uji, near Kyoto, Uji Karigane Gyokuro "Asagiri" is a high quality blend of first harvest gyokuro leaf and gyokuro stems. Gyokuro is shade grown before harvesting, giving it a greener color and sweeter taste. While this is a very delicious green tea in it's own right, since brewing gyokuro takes practice to perfect we feel this green tea also makes a very good introduction to gyokuro brewing at an economical price point. The added stems add a tartness to this green tea and the combination of the two make this one very tasty Japanese green tea.
It is prepared in exactly the same way as regular gyokuro, meaning more leaf brewed at a lower temperature for a longer period of time. Use 10 grams per 300ml or less of water. From the first harvest in Uji. Kabusecha is grown in the shade for 14~20 days before harvest under 45% shade, giving it characteristics of both sencha and gyokuro. A sweeter, less grassy and more vegetal, less astringent taste than regular sencha, you can definitely taste vegetive hints of gyokuro. It is easy to brew, not overly astringent, medium steamed, has a lovely green color, and is reasonably priced making it an all-around versatile winner of a green tea. Although it has hints of gyokuro, be sure to brew it as you would for sencha, not gyokuro.

A very nice handcrafted teapot from Tokoname Japan. One of our more popular items, it is medium sized teapot for brewing either single or multiple cups of green tea.
A very nice handcrafted teapot from Tokoname Japan. While perfect for brewing multiple or single cups of green tea, this teapot was designed for deep steamed green tea (fukamushi-cha) but is suitable for all green teas including gyokuro. Due to the fine, sometimes dust-like nature of fukamushi leaf, small bits of leaf can often get stuck in the stainless steel mesh of many teapots. Unique to this design is the built-in stainless steel infuser screen which covers just a small area of the inside part of the spout.
A very nice, basic handcrafted teapot from Tokoname Japan. Unique to this design is the "swing" type of stainless-steel infuser screen (see detailed images for a more accurate view.) The infuser screen is curved and is suspended off of the floor of the teapot, allowing the wet leaves to drain completely without remaining wet on the floor of the teapot in between subsequent infusions.
A very nice handcrafted teapot from Tokoname Japan. Perfect for brewing single cups of green tea, this teapot was designed for general green tea brewing. Built-in stainless steel infuser screen wraps 360 degrees around the inside of the spout. Very handy and sized for brewing a single cup or two of regular sencha. This teapot ca be used for fukamushi green tea or gyokuro as well. However due to the small leaf particle size of fukamushi-cha, small particles of leaf might occasionally become embedded in the infusor screen. If you are primarily a deep steamed green tea lover, a teapot dedicated to those would probably be more suitable.
Known as a "chasaji" in Japanese, this is a traditional sakura teaspoon is used for measuring out green tea. A full teaspoon will usually weight out to 4 or 5 grams. Made from the wood of blooming cherry trees, quite beautiful.

The bamboo used in Japanese whisks is superior and is dried for well over a year before use, no fungicides are used when producing Nara tea whisks. A real Japanese whisk will cost 2 or 3 times more than a Chinese whisk, naturally. It certainly is possible to make matcha with a Chinese made whisk but for long term reliability, we recommend that you invest in the real deal.
