A very nice handcrafted teapot from Tokoname Japan. Perfect for brewing single cups of green tea, this teapot was designed for general green tea brewing. Built-in stainless steel infuser screen wraps 360 degrees around the inside of the spout. Very handy and sized for brewing a single cup or two of regular sencha. This teapot ca be used for fukamushi green tea or gyokuro as well. However due to the small leaf particle size of fukamushi-cha, small particles of leaf might occasionally become embedded in the infusor screen. If you are primarily a deep steamed green tea lover, a teapot dedicated to those would probably be more suitable.

This teapot is my first of this type. I am very happy with it, even just after my first brew session. The finish is very attractive, and this pot is made to very high quality standards upon inspection.

Advantages: Because of the design of the tip, you can not make the spout drip fluid where it flows back onto the teapot; I like this a lot. I've been brewing with an in-cup strainer setup and all sorts of variations, and I am so impressed by how this pot has improved my brew. It must be something with how the pot maintains temperature and the general shape, etc... compared to not using a teapot.

Disadvantages: It will take a little bit of extra time to clean stuck leaves out of the mesh, but that's not a big deal.

I've been using this kyusu for almost a week now (about 15 sessions) and have been extremely happy with my purchase.

Appearance: It's a beautiful kyusu. It's decoration is very well executed and quite lovely. To my eye, all the components of this teapot (handle, lid, spout, etc) are nicely proportioned. The little loop on top is also a unique feature, which I love. The small size of the kyusu also makes it look very cute as well :)

Ease of Brewing/Use: The 360 stainless steel filter works very well. With the exception of extremely fine tea particles, no leaf gets through. It pours extremely fast, even when brewing Fukamushi (which I brew a lot). It holds 270ml. This translates into a max of two 'Japanese sized' cups. So if you are a solo drinker, or only typically have tea with one other person, it will work well. The pour is very smooth, and doesn't dribble down the outside of the spout.

Quality/Craftsmanship: This kyusu was made to a very high standard.

What is the name of the pottery in Tokoname town (常滑市 Tokoname-shi) which makes this teapot. I guess Tokoname, like Hagi and Bizen, is a pottery town with numerous potters and potteries.
    Thanks.

This pottery is simply called Tokoname - where it's from.
