Hi,
am asking a couple of questions re. this tea and it also is a general one re. other green tea.
1. Uji Miyabi has a brew temperature of 76-82 C. Having ordered this from you a couple of times I prefer it at around 65-68C. It seems to have a deeper full bodied flavour at this temp. If brewed at 80C it seems lighter and more astringent. (which I don't prefer). So: do I have odd taste-buds or is brewing temperatures subjective?
2. I drink green tea because I love the flavour but also do consider the health benefits. I'm just wondering about if it is better to drink organic green tea? How much pesticides are sprayed on this Uji Miyabi tea? And in general for other green teas this is something for me to think about if I'm thinking of drinking a healthy green tea but it has nasty pesticides on it (defeats the object of drinking healthy tea!) But I still would like to drink the most flavoursome tea and not sure if the organic can produce as good as flavours as the non organic (seems that uji miyabi is not organic but I really like drinking this tea!
Would appreciate your thoughts on this please as I have looked up info. on your site but can't find enough info. about re. my questions above.
Many thanks
JohnMar 30, 2016, 14:46There are many ways to brew any particular green tea, we give conservative recommendations because many of our customers are first timers at brewing green tea and it is quite easy to over brew and become bitter. Generally speaking, if you brew at a lower temperature you can get away with brewing for a longer time or more leaf. It all depends on your preferences.
On some minuscule level, probably ALL green tea (and just about any other food or drink) has "some" level of chemical residue remaining in the product. In Japan, green teas must not exceed the same MRI (maximum residue levels) set by by government regulation regardless of whether they are organic or not. When pesticides are used, they are usually applied in the fall before any spring growth has begun and they are usually non-systemic type. Whether you get it from us or not, it is highly unlikely there is any remaining pesticides in non-organic Japanese green tea you are buying. Further, certified organic green teas must use organic fertilizer which takes longer to break down, the factory it is processed in must not process non-organic green teas, etc. There are many green tea producers growing organic-like green tea which cannot be labeled as such due to the strict requirements needed to apply the organic label to it. From a health benefit point of view, I cannot see, nor have I ever come across any study showing that an organic green tea would be any more healthy for you than a non-organic type or vice versa.
- Kris S.Jul 15, 2023, 17:42This is my "treat yourself" sencha. 5/5 stars for offering delicate, yet complex, flavours.
- Harry HarrisDec 25, 2020, 01:19Delicious, understated, and very well balanced. Additional infusions are much lighter and drier.
- Scott PattonDec 20, 2019, 23:19I always include sencha Miyabi in my orders. For me, it’s the quintessential fukamushi-cha. Very rich, deep flavor. Incredible emerald green.
- Robert KJun 7, 2019, 10:56This is my favorite of all the tea that I have tried from O-cha!!! This tea is amazingly delicious, it's grassy, light with so many wonderful flavors. 168F for 40 seconds tastes great! I waited for the 2019 offering and I am happy that I did. I am ordering another!
- hblaze66Nov 15, 2018, 00:41Fresh, grassy and sweet. Can get pleasently astringent and savory on higher tempratures.
- London fanAug 5, 2017, 23:03Excellent tea. unlike any that can be bought in the shops in the London. Rich green fresh and slightly marine flavour. On balnce I slightly preferred the Organic Kirishima Sencha which I found to have a little more intensity.
- Daniel MulfordApr 2, 2017, 13:31Savory, almost broth-like flavor; deep yet gentle. Great with a flavorful meal.
- Bennett HallFeb 16, 2017, 09:15Really great sencha. Fresh grass taste but not overwhelming. Second steep is also great. Would buy again!
