Grown organically in the mountainous Kirishima area of Kagoshima Prefecture. Lightly steamed, organic Kirishima Zairai sencha has a light yellow green color to it, medium body, and rather unique taste and aroma due to it's high iron content. Zairai means "native" in Japanese and refers to the fact that this tea is from no known modern cultivar and is a close derivitive of the original tea plants imported into Japan from China in the 14th century. Since it is "wild" and grown from seed instead of cloning, there is quite a lot of variation between individual plants which gives the leaf a non-uniform leaf structure and charactaristics of a blend. Although it is considered a hardier plant to culitviate, the lack of leaf conformity, in addition to lower yield than recent clones does not encourage growers to grow it means you will not come across this unique tea often.
Very delicious, here's your chance to experience a green tea with characteristics of the teas of old Japan. As with all of our loose leaf green teas, packaged in nitrogen flushed packaging.

Deep Steamed Oku Midori - Those of you who know what this is will be quite happy to know that this year we were able to procure this deep steamed, grassy, umami-bomb of a green tea. For a myriad of reasons, this has been one of the more harder to obtain green teas for us over the years. We didn't have it at all in 2022 and nearly didn't get it again this year. But alas, this year we pushed it and made it happen.
From Kagoshima, an extremely flavorful, full of umami, deep steamed green tea. The high quality of this Oku Midori fukamushi green tea is obvious from the first sip. It has a very beautiful emerald green color to it and strong aroma. Harvested from the first round of young spring leaves. Our personal opinion - This is probably one of the all around best green teas you will ever drink. Nitrogen flushed and vacuum packaged, as fresh of a green tea as you can get.
We're not putting it into the "shincha" category because it's already June. However, know that this is a very fresh, first harvest green tea from 2023.

Packed with umami and one of our personal favorites, this delicious green tea comes from Kagoshima and is of course harvested from the first round of young leaves. Organic Sae Midori asamushi is a light steamed green tea of the Sae Midori clone and is somewhat rare to be processed in the light steamed form. This product is both flavorful and aromatic, much more so than the typical deep steamed Sae Midori. If you are a light-steamed green tea fan, you should really enjoy this one. The actual size of this teapot is purposefully small, measuring 10.5 cm wide x 5.3 cm tall (4" x 2") and holding about 100ml / 3.4 ounces of water. The thin gap between the in the inner body of the teapot and the lid eliminate the need for a filter basket.
Important to note - This teapot is meant to be used with larger leaf green teas such as light steamed sencha green tea or gyokuro, it is not suitable for anything with a fine leaf particle such as deep steamed green tea (fukamushi-cha).

A very nice handcrafted teapot from Tokoname Japan. Perfect for brewing single cups of green tea, this teapot was designed for general green tea brewing. Built-in stainless steel infuser screen wraps 360 degrees around the inside of the spout. Very handy and sized for brewing a single cup or two of regular sencha. This teapot ca be used for fukamushi green tea or gyokuro as well. However due to the small leaf particle size of fukamushi-cha, small particles of leaf might occasionally become embedded in the infusor screen.
