    Uji Shincha Kirameki

    • A Tsuen Tea!
    • Shincha!

Currently out of stock, more on the way...

It's our pleasure to be able to offer the outstanding Uji Shincha Kirameki.   While most of our teas have both a shincha and non-shincha version, this is the one tea we release just once a year during shincha season, and when when supplies run out, it will not be available again for another year.  Our supplier, the Tsuen teashop in Uji Japan, will then released a very similar product under the name Ujibashi San no Ma when shincha season has finished, but they are not the exact blend.

From Japan's oldest teashop, Tsuen Tea, operating continuously from the same location on the banks of the Uji river for over 859+ years. This item uses select 100% Uji grown, Yabukita leaves from the first harvest and is lightly steamed sencha (asamushi). It yields a very wonderful nice grassy aroma and is a very classy green tea.

Here is your chance to try some of the best of what Japan has to offer in Japanese green tea.

    Sae Midori Shincha

    • Shincha!

Kagoshima Shincha Sae Midori - From the first harvest, this is a very special sencha from Kagoshima prefecture located at the southern tip of Japan. O-Cha.com was the first internet tea shop to offer Sae Midori to the general public outside of Japan and it indeed has proven itself to be a popular choice since introduction.

A very easy to brew green tea! The "Sae Midori" clone of green tea plant is a cross between Yabukita and Asa Tsuyu varieties and was only just registered in 1990. Since it does not tolerate frost, it is mostly grown in Southern Kagoshima. Strong in color and aroma, but a bit on the sweet side, you will be greeted with a very wonderful, grassy aroma upon opening of the package. Without a doubt, this item offers one of the most intense, emerald green color you will likely ever come across in any green tea. We are sure you will be pleased!

Note that this is a deep steamed green tea with very fine, almost dust-like leaf particles. While you can brew it in a variety of teapots, it is best prepared in a teapot designed for fukamushi-cha (deep steamed green tea)

    Deep Steamed Shincha Kaoru

    • Shincha!

Fukamushi Shincha "Kaoru" - A first rate, first flush green tea. Harvested from the first round of young spring leaves, this 100% Yabukita green tea comes from the famous Makinohara tea growing district in Shizuoka Prefecture. Very green and very thick. This tea has a somewhat more pronounced grassy aroma and taste compared with the average deep steamed green tea and the taste remains on the palate for an extended time.

An overall easy brewer (a teapot for fukuamushi-cha is recommended, however). Be sure to not brew too hot, for too long, or with too much leaf. As with all of our loose leaf green teas, freshly packaged in nitrogen filled bags.

    Available in 100 gram packages.

  • Sae Midori Organic Asamushi Sencha

    • Popular!
    • Unique!

This green tea comes from Kagoshima and is of course harvested from the first round of young leaves.  When we offered this for the first time in 2017, we knew we would buy this one as soon as we tried it and sure enough it had sold out by December. Organic Sae Midori asamushi is a light steamed green tea of the Sae Midori clone and is somewhat rare to be processed in the light steamed form. This product is both flavorful and aromatic, much more so than the typical deep steamed Sae Midori. If you are a light-steamed green tea fan, you should really enjoy this one.  As with all of our loose leaf green teas, packaged in nitrogen flushed packaging.

Light steamed Tsuyu Hikari Sencha from Shizuoka

    • Rare!
    • Unique!

Shizuoka Sencha Tsuyu Hikari - Defininetly one of the best sencha green teas we have ever tried.  This light steamed sencha green tea is produced by a well-known tea master located in Tenryu, Shizuoka and of course is harvested from the first round of young leaves. This is a rather rare batch and probably won't last very long.  Perfectly shaped beautiful green needles and great balance, it has a rich, silky mouthfeel.  As with most light steamed green teas, some of the taste is subtle but this one has a very nice, pronounced umami and lingering aftertaste.  Frankly speaking, this tea is a masterpiece assamushi green tea.

We have obtained a limited supply of this fantastic green tea.  It was expensive to purchase, but it was so good we simply could not pass it up.   We have decided to make it available in 50 gram packages so that more of our customers will have the opportunity to try a sencha of this calibre.

We have no idea how long this tea will last but probably not long.

Price shown includes 50 grams of tea per package

Note: This tea is eligible for purchase with and receiving bonus points but because of it's rarity and our limited supply, it is not eligible for 10% shincha discounts.
