Uji Matcha Manten
Introducing Uji Matcha Manten, an unparalleled matcha offering that stands as the epitome of excellence in the world of matcha. Since its debut on O-Cha.com in the mid-2000s, Uji Matcha Manten has been a coveted treasure previously unavailable outside of Japan and remains an exclusive online offering through our site.
Upon experiencing this matcha, you'll be captivated by its intensely aromatic nature—the first hint of its superior quality. Sourced from a grower in Uji with a very limited production, this matcha is a rarity, supplied mainly to the local market. The availability of Manten is sporadic, making each batch a precious find.
The grower, a renowned figure in the Uji tea community and an accomplished author on the cultivation of Tencha (the precursor to matcha), has won numerous awards from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries. His meticulous care and traditional methods ensure that Manten offers a unique taste profile that is unmatched, often chosen by tea ceremony instructors who demand only the best.
Manten is ideally suited for koicha (thick matcha), which is sweeter and milder than the more common usucha (thin matcha). This exquisite quality is derived from tea plants that are at least 30 years old, necessary for achieving the less bitter, profoundly rich flavor required for koicha. While Manten can be prepared as usucha, its exceptional properties are best expressed when served thick.
Each 30-gram package of Uji Matcha Manten offers a chance to indulge in a matcha experience that transcends ordinary.
For those preparing it as koicha, consider pairing it with a specialized 48 prong tea whisk designed for this luxurious thick style matcha.

Hello
I ordered this matcha
It does not say how hot the water must be, can you please inform me?Aug 13, 2024, 13:07Hello,
There’s no set, established temperature for matcha per se, but generally speaking it’s around 175 F. The bowl must be pre-heated, then dried. I will refer you to this page from the navigation menu at the top:

Hi, considering this matcha purchase and wondering if time of year is a consideration. Should I wait until new spring teas start coming available, or is it less of a factor in this case? Any information is appreciated.
Thank you,
JamesJan 27, 2020, 15:24Good question.
You do not have to really consider the time of year as this matcha, like all of the best matcha, is aged before it's released. In other words, it is not released within the first few months of the spring harvest and the quality of our stock is consistent throughout the year.
- Jared EllerbrockMay 17, 2019, 07:29Elegant taste, vibrant green color. Extremely smooth. Not as deep of a flavor or lingering finish as some other matcha, but very nice. Not sure if price is worth it.
- Matthew Amster-BurtonJun 27, 2018, 07:42Wondering, like I did for a long time, whether this could possible be worth the price? It is. Easy. Probably the highlight of any week you drink it.
- AleksNov 7, 2017, 19:16Absolutely the best matcha I've ever tasted, no contest. The brew is so green it, in my eyes, almost leans towards the turquoise end of the spectrum. I had a tin of Midori Spring Emerald class matcha, which I made side by side for comparison (and out of greed :). The colour of the Manten eclipses the Emerald completely, making it look yellowy-grey by comparison and the flavours are so complex they go beyond my powers of description. Would recommend to any matcha lover to try at least once!
- NYCTeaSep 23, 2017, 02:30Very lovely. Still prefer the Taiko-San Uji Matcha, but this is another delightful matcha.
- Edward WollmanJun 28, 2017, 08:25I slowly worked my way up to Uji Matcha Manten. And there I stopped. I will skip the detailed descriptive analyses and simply say it starts my day, everyday. So very good. What a find.
- Happy DogMay 17, 2017, 08:40The best of the best! I have been consuming two tins of this and the Taiko San for years.
- AaronMar 28, 2017, 14:44Wonderful flavour, beautiful colour. A treat to prepare and to enjoy.
- sinlin tangJun 11, 2016, 01:32When I first opened the bag, I was wowed by the color. I didn't think I could get this bright color from matcha because I had bought a $30 matcha here in the US and it's ranged as the best... After I tried this one, I know I can never go back to the convenient pick up $30 one at the market anymore. I will just wait a little while for it to ship to me then :)
