Fukamushi | Teapots

Fukamushi Teapots are the best kind of teapot to use with green teas with very fine leaf particles such as deep steamed green tea. Typically, they have a tall profile, do not use a filter type of basket, and the infusor screen is a very fine stainless steel mesh. The nice thing about fukamushi teapots is that you can brew just about any kind of green tea in them, which is not the case for light steamed green tea pots such as shiboridashi and houhin. If you are looking for one teapot only that can brew any kind of green tea, a teapot designed for deep steamed green tea will be a good choice.

    A very nice handcrafted teapot from Tokoname Japan. While perfect for brewing multiple or single cups of green tea, this teapot was designed for deep steamed green tea (fukamushi-cha) but is suitable for all green teas including gyokuro. Due to the fine, sometimes dust-like nature of fukamushi leaf, small bits of leaf can often get stuck in the stainless steel mesh of many teapots. Unique to this design is the built-in stainless steel infuser screen which covers just a small area of the inside part of the spout.

    If deep steamed (fukamushi-cha) green tea is your thing, then this handcrafted Banko-yaki teapot should fit your needs nicely. It has been designed specifically for brewing deep steamed green tea, although it is suitable for all green teas including gyokuro. Unique features of this teapot include:

    • Backward sloping bottom. This effectively separates water from the wet leaves between infusions!
    • Large, round, extra-fine stainless steel infuser removeable infuser screen. Does an especially good job of filtering the characteristically fine leaf particles of deep steamed green tea.
    • Inner rim lip extrudes into the teapot, preventing dripping from the rim when teapot is tipped to an extreme angle.
