This is probably the most popular green tea in the Tsuen tea shop in Uji Japan. A proprietary blend Yabukita breed karigane sencha. The stems from gyokuro leaves are added, giving this tea somewhat of a unique "tart", sharp taste.  A bit sweeter and greener than Tsuen's similar Musashi version. Try it today!

                            Organic Kabusecha

This organic kabusecha green tea comes from Kirishima City, Kagoshima and is of course harvested from the first round of young leaves. Organic Kabusecha is grown for 14 to 20 days under 45% shade before harvest giving it taste characteristics of both sencha and gyokuro. This version comes from the Yabukita clone and is lightly steamed.  The aroma is unusually strong, it has a lovely green color and is quite flavorful.  Brew as you would for sencha. As with all of our loose leaf green teas, packaged in nitrogen flushed packaging.

Price shown includes 100 grams of tea per package

Harvested from the young, vibrant spring leaves in the renowned Makinohara district of Shizuoka Prefecture, this 100% Yabukita brew is a showstopper. It's exceptionally green and thick, with a fresh, grassy aroma that's a bit more intense than your typical deep-steamed green tea. Plus, its taste lingers delightfully long after each sip.

We recently came across this gem and snapped it up on the spot - this is one very delicous sencha green tea! Sencha "Mio" is medium-steamed has a somewhat more pronounced grassy aroma and taste compared with the average deep steamed green tea and the taste remains on the palate for an extended time.

An overall easy brewer (a teapot for fukuamushi-cha is recommended, however). Be sure to not brew too hot, for too long, or with too much leaf. As with all of our loose leaf green teas, freshly packaged in nitrogen filled bags.

Unlike our other teas, the Kirameki is a once-a-year treat during shincha season, and once it’s gone, you’ll have to wait until next year to get more. After shincha season, Tsuen Tea introduces a similar, yet not identical, blend called Ujibashi San no Ma, but there’s something truly special about the Kirameki.

Crafted from select 100% Uji-grown Yabukita leaves from the first harvest, this lightly steamed sencha (asamushi) captivates with its fresh, grassy aroma and elegant flavor. Don’t miss your chance to experience one of the finest Japanese green teas available.

This first-harvest sencha comes straight from the southern tip of Japan and is a gem that's not to be missed.

We at O-Cha.com pride ourselves on being pioneers, as we were probably the first online shops to ever bring the delightful Sae Midori to tea enthusiasts all over the globe. And guess what? It's been a hit ever since!

Brewing this tea is a breeze! Sae Midori is a unique blend of Yabukita and Asa-Tsuyu tea plants, first registered in 1990. Thriving in the frost-free climes of Southern Kagoshima, this tea boasts a vibrant color and a tempting, sweet aroma that's reminiscent of fresh grass. Just opening the package sends out a wave of scent that's absolutely heavenly. It’s truly a spectacle in green, offering one of the richest emerald hues you'll ever see in a tea.

Here's a little tip: Sae Midori is a deep-steamed green tea with very fine leaves, almost like dust. While you can brew it in various teapots, it shines brightest when made in a teapot designed for fukamushi-cha. Trust us, it makes a difference!

Ready to give it a try? We offer these beautiful 100-gram packages just waiting to be a part of your tea collection. We're pretty sure you're going to love it as much as we do!

Kabusecha is grown in the shade for 14~20 days before harvest under 45% shade, giving it characteristics of both sencha and gyokuro. A sweeter, less grassy and more vegetal, less astringent taste than regular sencha, you can definitely taste vegetive hints of gyokuro.  It is easy to brew, not overly astringent, medium steamed, has a lovely green color, and is reasonably priced making it an all-around versatile winner of a green tea. Although it has hints of gyokuro, be sure to brew it as you would for sencha, not gyokuro.

Unlike the vast majority of green tea tea bags you run across, each of our Gyokuro Green Tea Bags consists of 5 grams of high quality gyokuro leaf (not tea dust).  There are a few gyokuro stems in this tea bag which give the tea a slight astringency but the main flavor is gyokuro all the way.

This tea bag comes in a triangular, biodegradable (not plastic or nylon) mesh infusion bag, and will not affect the taste as traditional paper teabags are known to do. A wonderful grassy aroma awaits you when you open the re-sealable package.

As of November 2020, the tea bag material used for our Uji green tea bags is composed of a starch based biomass material derived from plants. In addition to the filter, the laminate on the tag and string of this product also incorporate the same environmentally-friendly material.

To brew this successfully, you do need to take temperature into consideration. A good proceedure is to use TWO cups to brew this tea.

                                                                                    1) In your first cup, add hot water (90 ℃ / 194 ℉) and allow it to sit for about a minute. The temperature will drop (see detailed product  images).

                                                                                    2) Next, pour the water from the first cup into a second cup. The temperature will drop further (see detailed product  images).

                                                                                    3) Lastly, put the teabag into the first cup (which is now pre-warmed) and pour the water from the second cup back into the first cup with the tea bag. 55℃ / 131℉ is the perfect temperature, brew this for 2.5 to 3 minutes (this is longer than for sencha). Place your used tea bag into the second cup for subsequent infusions.

Gyokuro is shade grown before harvesting, giving it a greener color and sweeter taste. While this is a very delicious green tea in it's own right, since brewing gyokuro takes practice to perfect we feel this green tea also makes a very good introduction to gyokuro brewing at an economical price point. The added stems add a tartness to this green tea and the combination of the two make this one very tasty Japanese green tea.
