Expensive? Yes, it is. However - if you are in search of the absolute best matcha available anywhere, your search is over! This matcha has never been sold outside of Japan, until now. A few words about this item...

The first thing you will notice about this matcha is its wonderful aroma. Extremely aromatic!

The grower has an extremely small production, and is currently supplying only the local market with this grade, so the supply is extremely limited. O-Cha.com will have this item in stock as supplies are available, which will be very hit and miss.

The grower will never increase his production.

The typical customer in Japan who purchases this matcha are the tea ceremony instructors - because they know it to be the best.

In the Uji area where this tea is grown, the grower is well known, and has written a book on the art of growing Tencha (the tea leaves from which matcha is derived.) He has won numerous awards for his Tencha from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The taste of Manten is very distinctive and there is no competition for this grade - this is a connoisseur's class matcha. O-Cha.com is the first to carry this matcha outside of Japan. Koi-cha (Thick tea) is sweeter, more milder tasting than Usu-cha. Because twice the amount of tea powder is used to make a thicker tea, a milder, less bitter product is required.

Very happy with fast packaging and sending it out so quickly. Being a total newbie to Matcha (previously a tea shop shelf buyer) this is a whole new exiting experience for me in Norway. This was my first of many future matchas- esp from O-Cha.
Simply excellent

I finally ordered this tea and it was easily worth the price. Made as koicha this is an extremely aromatically potent brew, lovely green refreshing taste without even a hint of bitterness, but rather a nice almost vegetal sweetness.
My favourite

I love this stuff. This is becoming the only matcha I drink anymore (oh, my wallet!). Yes, it's expensive, but absolutely worth it. It is very sweet, I don't detect any bitterness or chalkiness. The taste is incredible.

Manten means under the whole of the heavens or the whole world and while my experience with high class matcha is limited I can say it is the best I've ever had by far, the best in the world to me. It is good enough and expensive enough as well.
