Tokoname Teapot 16375
Explore the craftsmanship of our handcrafted teapot from Tokoname, Japan, expertly designed for brewing green tea. Ideal for personal use, this teapot excels in preparing single cups of your favorite green tea varieties, from the regular sencha to the more delicate gyokuro. Its versatility also extends to brewing fukamushi green tea, thanks to its comprehensive design.
This teapot features a built-in stainless steel infuser screen that encircles 360 degrees around the inside of the spout, ensuring that the tea leaves are steeped uniformly, maximizing flavor extraction. The size and functionality make it perfect for enjoying a cup or two of finely brewed tea at your convenience.
While it is suitable for a variety of green teas, please note that for fukamushi-cha, which tends to have smaller leaf particles, some leaves may occasionally embed in the infuser screen. For those who primarily enjoy deep-steamed green teas, you might consider a teapot specifically designed for such teas to enhance your brewing experience.

What is the name of the pottery in Tokoname town (常滑市 Tokoname-shi) which makes this teapot. I guess Tokoname, like Hagi and Bizen, is a pottery town with numerous potters and potteries.
Thanks.Oct 8, 2016, 04:53This pottery is simply called Tokoname - where it's from.
- Geoff BeaverMay 28, 2015, 11:42This teapot is my first of this type. I am very happy with it, even just after my first brew session. The finish is very attractive, and this pot is made to very high quality standards upon inspection.
Advantages: Because of the design of the tip, you can not make the spout drip fluid where it flows back onto the teapot; I like this a lot. I've been brewing with an in-cup strainer setup and all sorts of variations, and I am so impressed by how this pot has improved my brew. It must be something with how the pot maintains temperature and the general shape, etc... compared to not using a teapot.
Disadvantages: It will take a little bit of extra time to clean stuck leaves out of the mesh, but that's not a big deal. - Griffin EarleJun 18, 2012, 09:00I've been using this kyusu for almost a week now (about 15 sessions) and have been extremely happy with my purchase.
Appearance: It's a beautiful kyusu. It's decoration is very well executed and quite lovely. To my eye, all the components of this teapot (handle, lid, spout, etc) are nicely proportioned. The little loop on top is also a unique feature, which I love. The small size of the kyusu also makes it look very cute as well :)
Ease of Brewing/Use: The 360 stainless steel filter works very well. With the exception of extremely fine tea particles, no leaf gets through. It pours extremely fast, even when brewing Fukamushi (which I brew a lot). It holds 270ml. This translates into a max of two 'Japanese sized' cups. So if you are a solo drinker, or only typically have tea with one other person, it will work well. The pour is very smooth, and doesn't dribble down the outside of the spout.
Quality/Craftsmanship: This kyusu was made to a very high standard.
