Since gyokuro should be brewed at a lower temperature with double the amount of loose leaf, notwithstanding the fact that gyokuro is usually the most expensive type of loose-leaf green tea available, the use of this teapot is ideal for gyokuro enthusiasts. Multiple small infusions for individual cups. This teapot also works great for light steamed asamushi sencha as well.

How to Brew Gyokuro - Step-by-Step Instructions!

The actual size of this teapot is purposefully small, measuring 10.5 cm wide x 5.3 cm tall (4" x 2") and holding about 100ml / 3.4 ounces of water. The thin gap between the in the inner body of the teapot and the lid eliminate the need for a filter basket.

Important to note - This teapot is meant to be used with larger leaf green teas such as light steamed sencha green tea or gyokuro, it is not suitable for anything with a fine leaf particle such as deep steamed green tea (fukamushi-cha). 

The craftsmanship of these items is superb, and many not-so-obvious fine details went into making this teapot. Please note that since each of these items are had crafted, they may very slightly from the shown images. So, if you are a regular gyokuro drinker or have ever considered a foray into gyokuro, you will be hard pressed to find a better teapot for it than our handmade shiboridashi and houhin teapots!

How to Brew Gyokuro - Step-by-Step Instructions!

The actual size of this teapot is purposefully small and holds about 60ml / 2 ounces of water. The primary purpose is to hold enough volume to brew a single cup at a time, or perhaps two small cups of gyokuro. The thin gap between the in the inner body of the teapot and the lid eliminate the need for a filter basket.

A very nice handcrafted teapot from Tokoname Japan. Due to the fine, sometimes dust-like nature of fukamushi leaf, small bits of leaf can often get stuck in the stainless steel mesh of many teapots. Unique to this design is the built-in stainless steel infuser screen which covers just a small area of the inside part of the spout.

This 48 prong matcha whisk is handmade in Japan especially for thick style koicha matcha. Not to be confused with imports from China, this authentic hand-made tea whisk is made in Nara Prefecture. There are over 120 different types of Nara tea whisks, with the type of material, shape and number of splines varying according to the school of tea, and also on the kind of matcha to be used.

Note: This while you could use this whisk for other types of matcha, it was designed for use with thick "koicha" matcha. For general matcha brewing, we recommend this tea whisk instead.

Differences between Japanese and Chinese tea whisks... The vast majority of tea whisks encountered on the market are copies made in China, not Japan. There is almost no market for matcha whisks within China itself, nearly all are exported abroad and surprisingly, even to Japan.

Japanese craftsmen start the whisk making process using a sharp knife to chip the end of the bamboo, giving it a clean sharp break, whereas in China it  tends to be done with a file. Because of this, the tip of the whisk prongs of Japanese whisks are known to last longer.

The bamboo used in Japanese whisks is superior and is dried for well over a year before use, no fungicides are used when producing Nara tea whisks. A real Japanese whisk will cost 2 or 3 times more than a Chinese whisk, naturally. It certainly is possible to make matcha with a Chinese made whisk but for long term reliability, we recommend that you invest in the real deal.

A high quality handcrafted teapot from Arita Japan, Arita Teapot "Kohiki Budou" is perfect for brewing green tea. A small teapot, it would be best used for single cups of green tea. The infuser screen is deep rather than wide and is removable. Suspended off of the floor of the teapot, it allows the wet leaves to drain completely without remaining wet on the floor of the teapot in between subsequent infusions.

Finally - An easier way to brew your favorite loose-leaf iced green tea!

• Simply turn the bottle upside down, add your favorite loose leaf sencha, gyokuro, or other tea, close the lid
• Fill with water from the top.
• Put into the refrigerator for about 6 hours.
• Enjoy!

These canisters are not only beautiful, they are hand-made especially for storing green tea. Made to hold 100 grams of tea perfectly. Made of steel, they are durable, each having a slightly tapered rim for easy removal of lid, and also feature a fitting inner plastic lid for a tight seal. Since each is handmade with Japanese washi wazome paper, no two are exactly alike.

Each green tea canister measures 63mm x 113mm (2.5 inches x 4.5 inches).

A very simple, yet elegante hand-made teacup.  Made in Arita Japan out of white kaolin clay, the pure white color of this Japanese ceramic cup will help you evaluate any green tea's inherent color and to compare it against other green teas. The teacup itself is rather small, but it is exactly this kind of teacup that one often encounters in tea shops throught Japan.

This handy device is designed to store and keep your tea whisk in great shape. Made of ceramic, simply place your tea whisk on it to retain it's shape.

Known as a "chasaji" in Japanese, this is a traditional sakura teaspoon is used for measuring out green tea. A full teaspoon will usually weight out to 4 or 5 grams. Made from the wood of blooming cherry trees, quite beautiful.

Note: This item is for loose leaf tea, not matcha. Here is a link to our matcha-spoon.  Do not use in the microwave, store in the refrigerator, or use in a dishwasher.
