Probably one of our most popular matcha green teas due to it's very high quality to price ratio, Matcha "Kyou Mukashi" is abhigh quality regular consistency (usucha) matcha from Uji City, near Kyoto, Japan. Whether you use this for the tea ceremony or as a source for antioxidants, know that this matcha, as with all of our products, is extremely fresh (we only order as we sell them) and is a quality throughout. We keep this product under refrigeration until shipment.

Excellent value! Nice froth, really sweet with hint of bitterness. Works also as koicha. Highly recommended as it's much higher quality than many other matchas with same price tag. It'll be my daily matcha from now on.

We keep buying this matcha because it’s amazing, especially for the price. It is one of the smoothest matchas we’ve had, not bitter at all, and a beautiful colour.

I've been drinking Matcha tea for a little over 2 years now and this one is definitely among my favorites for daily usage. The taste, as perceived by my young tongue, reminds me of my other all time favorite – the Toyo Mukashi. The taste is sweeter and less grassy-green than the Toyo, and it foams just as much. This one tastes a lot like the top of the line Matchas offered here, for a fraction of the cost. I order this one regularly, and the shipment to Sweden is very fast and always on point.

Very very great tasting and priced matcha for this price, not bitter at all! Also shipping is exceptionally fast coming all the way from Japan, which means you get your matcha crave in no time. Definitely would recommend.

This has been my daily matcha for over six months now, and although I occasionally like getting the more expensive and high-end matchas, this one has amazing quality in such an affordable price that it's the go-to matcha for me, since it's really delicious.

Hi. The details section says that 2017 is the "year", but what does this mean? Is this the harvest year, or is it when the tea was ground? In either case I assume the harvest is Spring only? You highlight that the tea is fresh. What's the maximum time that tea is kept in storage after grinding before being shipped? I understand refrigeration helps keep matcha fresh, though it's still good to have it as soon as possible after grinding, am I right? For my own curiosity are you able to provide any other information about this tea and/or any other matcha tea that you provide such as cultivar and or shading time? Thanks.

When it says 2017, of course that is both the harvest year and the year tea was ground. Nearly all of our tea is from the first harvest only, we only have one or two exceptions and it doesn't apply to our matcha which is all first harvest.

Yes, matcha will store for a pretty long time under refrigeration provided it were not unsealed, but it's always better to get as freshly packaged green tea as possible.

As far as matcha and gyokuro are concerned, although it's harvested in late spring they benefit from aging for a few months which is why they are usually released much later than regular loose leaf green teas, usually in fall, but they will often be released earlier when the prior year's tea has run out of supply.

Shading is about 3 weeks for matcha and gyokuro no matter which one you purchase.

Regarding cultivar, it varies widely depending on the matcha and is mostly the grower's proprietary information. Some of them are blends of different cultivars in certain ratios.

Hi, can you tell me more about the Kyou Mukashi matcha such as what type of cultivar and anything else that you might know about it? I've tried several different matchas and this one makes me feel something that the others are missing. Is there something unique about the growing or processing method?

    Hi,

This is on the borderline of being a thick matcha. The reason you feel something that other's are missing is because the quality is higher than average, it has higher levels of theanine in it that average. Matcha Manten and Taiko are even higher.
